Building up a head of steam! `88 SETA Sedan refresh

About 9 months ago, I was out for a walk and found a 1988 325 Sedan in Schwartz over blue cloth in my neighborhood. There was a 'for sale' sign on the car, but no phone number. Several days of stalking the car yeilded a 'chance' encounter with the owner, who was selling most of his possessions due to serious legal troubles & subsequent expenses.

Asking price for the car: $1,700. My purchase price: $1,200.

The car as it was when I first bought it...

The good news was that the previous owner had been trying to restore the car, and had put in a new battery, fuel pressure regulator, Guibo and some fuses. Most importantly, Manual Transmission.

The bad news was more plentiful. No A/C (still set up for R12), paint is roached, crack in dash, front passenger side window doesn't budge. Also, some PO had installed a fuel pump from a 318, which could not keep up with the demands of the 6-cylinder M20B27 engine.

So, I've done a few things to the car, none of which really warranted a thread of it's own. At this point, what I've done is:

    * Replace the 2 front blue cloth comfort seats with Heated Black Leather
    Sport Seats from a 'Vert.

    * Replaced the standard 4-spoke City Bus-spec steering wheel with a
tasty MOMO wheel, with an authentic BMW horn button.

    * Replaced the fuel pump with the correct model, fuel filter, spark plugs,
    air filter.

    * Painted the windshield wiper arms, DB bumper trim and grills.

That was phase 1, but I was just waiting for my Bonus check to get serious...

Next up was ditching the bottlecaps.

I picked up a set of BBS RX wheels in 17x7.5 size, powder coated gold. These used to belong to MR325, who sold them to Levent at Guten Parts. Levent, BTW, has lived up to reputation for being all-around awesome! He's helped me track down some parts I wanted, given me very fair prices, and steered me to others when he felt they could give me better prices than him!

Levent also supplied the MOMO steering wheel. Ebay supplied the MOMO hub.

Got the first little batch of parts today! AKG diff bushing and subframe bushings showed up.

LOTS of other parts on the way, including a minty dash, and (soon) plastic bumpers and hardward.

        WOOT!

          Big updates!

          WOOT! Big delivery of parts!!

Most of these parts came from Levent at Guten Parts. The only thing there that didn't was the set of H&R Sport Springs, and that was because Levent told me that Turner was able to offer the springs cheaper than he could.

While I'm on the subject of Levent, I want to post publicly how awesome he has been to deal with. I had seen him posting on the board, started chatting with him, and began to buy a few little things here and there from him. Then came the BBS wheels, and then TONS of other stuff.

The main point I want to get across is that everyone seems to know Leven/GutenParts for the Euro parts, and other hard-to-find rare items. The great thing is that Levent actually is one of the best places I've EVER found for one-stop shopping. I picked up all the water hoses, ignition parts, rubber hoses, starter motor, shocks, half shafts, 3.73 LSD, etc, etc, etc from Guten Parts, and everything came in quickly, packed well, and with very fair prices. I used to get all my parts from PelicanParts, but I'm a Guten Guy for life now!

Levent, thanks for being great to work with! :D

              Loving the Smoked Euro smilies!

Two of the best mods I did! ZHP knob and the MOMO steering wheel.

I'm going with plastic bumpers. Had a line on some, but that dried up.

Yeah, Levent is da MAN! You're going to have a blast working with him. Not only did he get me some really cool parts, but he also got me great prices on everything. He's a heck of a guy, too! I highy recommend Guten Parts, and he's the ONLY guy I'll buy from!

I can't wait to post pics of the next round of stuff!! On it's way from Levent now!
